



At the forefront of Hay River Métis Local #51’s mission is ensuring the recognition, growth, and personal development of the Métis community who will collectively preserve their Métis heritage, Culture, Traditions, Rights, Land, and Resources by working towards supporting and enhancing the social, economic, spiritual, and cultural well- being of the community to achieve self-sufficiency. Providing assistance and resources to Métis individuals and families in the area is a central goal for the organization.
Our vision is of a vibrant and thriving Metis community where all members are empowered to achieve their full potential and contribute meaningfully to the collective success and prosperity of our heritage, culture, and history. We envision that all the Métis of Hay River will work in cooperation to achieve the recognition of the Métis peoples and the rights of the Métis people and that we will work towards advancing those rights through respect, honesty, and commitment.
- To foster a strong sense of Métis community and provide valuable business opportunities for the people in the region.
- To guide the people towards empowerment, unity, and economic growth.
- To uplift and support Métis individuals by creating a network of resources and opportunities for success.
- To empower its members to thrive in entrepreneurship and contribute positively to the local economy.
- To create a supportive environment that enables the Métis people to realize their full potential.
The mandate of the Hay River & Area Métis Local #51 is to:
1. Unite the Métis Status and Non-Status Indian People of the Hay River area.
2. Promote the pride and heritage of the Métis Status and Non-Status Indian People of the Hay River area.
3. Promote participation in local and territorial organizations.
4. Ensure all Métis Status and non-Status Indian people are aware of and assured access to their legal, social, and political rights.
5. Promote the culture of the Métis Status and Non-Status Indian people to emphasize their role in the history and development of the Northwest Territories.
6. Promote unity among all Indigenous People.
7. Promote participation of Métis Status and Non-Status people in all spheres of economic activity in the Northwest Territories.

The objects of the Society are;
